There are a few species in this genus in North America. None poses a threat to humans.

Common web-building spider; probably statewide in NC. Easily recognized by "arrow" protrusions from rear of abdomen.

I believe this is a Spined Micrathena rather than a White Micrathena, but I'm not a spider expert!
