Fox Sparrow (Passerellaa iliaca)

Uncommon to fairly common statewide in winter in North Carolina. Fox Sparrows are most frequently seen under bird feeders when there's snow on the ground.

Fox sparrows are very rusty-brown with slate gray in the head area and rusty-streaked underparts.

Fox Sparrows are fairly large, noticeably larger than the Song Sparrow it's with in this photo.
