Horned Grebe (Podiceps auritis)Oregon Inlet, Dare Co., NC24 Mar 2014In winter plumage (left bird), Horned Grebes show white cheeks with black on the upper half of the head. In breeding plumage (upper right bird is approaching breeding plumage), the heads become black with yellow ear patches while their necks and sides turn rufous.
