Breeds in much of Canada and the northern tier of the United States as well as sparingly down the Appalachian mountain chain into North Carolina.

Least Flycatcher (Empidonax minimus) — Least Flycatcher (Empidonax minimus)New Hanover Co., NC2 Jan 2016Very rare in winter in North Carolina, Derb C. and I found this Empidonax during the Wilmington Christmas Bird Count. We identified it as a Least based in part on moderate primary projection, pale lower mandible, large-headed appearance, bill not too dainty, and a rapid "wit wit wit" vocalization. Additional comments and dissenting (or agreement) comments welcome!
