Le Conte's Sparrow (Ammodramus leconteii)

Fairly plain cheek surrounded by orange. (Note, out of habit, I accidentally stamped these pics "2006", when they were actually taken in 2007.)

Le Conte's Sparrows can be very secretive and quiet, however, at times they'll perch about knee high to have a look around.

Fine streaks on buffy breast and heavily streaked sides & flanks.

Note purplish nape with fine streaks and white central crown stripe.
