, recent genomics studies indicate that the Florida population is a distinct species (P. histrio) from the populations in Mexico (P. arizonensis) that stray into the southwestern US deserts. I am tentatively creating the common name Florida Hammock Skipper for the FL population and Southwest Hammock Skipper for the southwestern US individuals.
Flies year round in south Florida.
