Southern Dogface (Zerene cesonia)

A few scattered records appear from across NC, as this is a rare stray (migrant) from the deep south. It could show up any time from spring to fall. Note the outline of the black pattern in the forewing looks like the face of a poodle, hence the common name of the species.
