Yellow-sided Skimmer(Libellula flavida)

Statewide in distribution in NC and generally uncommon. Young adult males show yellow sides to the thorax while older males are completely blue. Females have boldly marked bodies with brown and yellow and show dark wingtips. Both sexes show strong gold markings to the sub-marginal leading edge of the wing.
