American Crocodile (Crocodylus acutus)

Rare and local, American Crocodiles are federally listed as "Threatened" and are protected by the Endangered Species Act. In the US, they only occur in Florida and the population is estimated to be only around a thousand individuals.

Even with a closed mouth, many teeth are visible on crocodiles. Along with a more pointed snout, this helps distinguish them from alligators.

This croc found a nice protruding rock for sunning. It's somewhat unusual to find them in such freshwater habitats as this.
