Southern Water Snake (Nerodia fasciata)

Comprised of 3 subspecies (Banded Water Snake, Broad-banded Water Snake, and Florida Water Snake), this is one of the most common water snakes in the southeastern US.

Common in the NC coastal plain, Banded Water Snakes feed on various herps and fish. Their coloration is variable from reddish-orange to dark brown with a strong to faint banding pattern.
